Ally: Parent, carer, or other adult who is supporting the young person to achieve their goal through the SpeakUP program.
Young person: We have referred to all children and teenagers participating in the program as ‘young people’.
Facilitator: Lifestart staff who are providing support to the young people (and their allies) during the one-on-one sessions to identify, express and achieve their goals. Facilitators come from a variety of disciplines and work in a Key Worker approach.
SpeakUP Team: We have a dedicated project team working on SpeakUP who can assist with any enquiries and who would love to hear your feedback. You can email the team at speakup@lifestart.org.au or call us on 1800 953 390.
Lifestart: Lifestart is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping children and young people 0-24 years achieve their goals. Lifestart supports children and young people living with disability to be part of everyday life in their community. Lifestart is the organisation that has developed and is delivering the SpeakUP program.
Participation at school: Being present and engaged in school activities. Adjustments may need to be made by teachers for a young person to participate in the best way they can at school. Discussion, planning and support may be needed to work out what those adjustments might look like. The SpeakUP program is about ensuring that the young person’s voice is at the centre of those plans.
